The design had to encompass protection from the extreme weather, earthquake resilience & council requirements for acoustic insulation. Protection from Kea inquisitiveness was also a factor to be accounted for by protecting any soft exterior surfaces.

Oasis of warmth & calmness

Tucked area & hidden from view by native bush, this smart & compact bach designed for extended family stays in the rugged alpine environment, is an oasis of warmth & calmness.  Inside, the main living space faces up towards Arthur's Pass capturing the dramatic landscape through a large picture window. Corrugated colour steel-cladding and roofing wraps this retreat, blending with the colour-scape of the surroundings. Between the bedroom and living wing is a relaxing deck area for casual meals & taking in the stunning views.
